Opens the path to liberation and attainment of Shivapur (Kailash) at the end of life. Destroys enemies and provides complete protection from negative forces. How to Recite Bathe early in the morning and wear clean clothes. Sit facing east before an idol, Shivling, or image of Lord Shiva. Offer a lamp, incense, water, Bilva leaves, and Datura flowers. Begin with the opening Doha, then recite the Chaupais, and end with the closing Doha. Reciting on Trayodashi (Pradosh), Monday, and Mahashivratri is especially fruitful. After the recitation, chant "Om Namah Shivaya" 108 times using a mala. Perform aarti and distribute prasad (sweets, milk, Bilva leaves) among family. A Note on the Verses This Shiv Chalisa was composed by the poet Ayodhya Das. It beautifully describes the many forms and divine plays of Lord Shiva — as Nilakantha (the blue-throated one who drank the ocean's poison), Tripurari (destroyer of the three demon cities), the slayer of Jalandhar and Tarakasur, and the fulfiller of Bhagiratha's penance by releasing the Ganges. The Chalisa also recounts the famous episode of Lord Rama's worship with a thousand lotus flowers and Shiva's test of his devotion. Reciting this Chalisa with faith is said to grant freedom from all suffering, fulfillment of desires, and ultimate liberation in Shivapur. O Mahadev, Lord of Lords! Remove all suffering and obstacles from my life. Give me the strength to walk the path of truth, peace, and devotion. Fulfill all my wishes and grant me a place in Shivapur at the end. The mysterious, mythological, and inspiring story behind the birth and celebration of Lord Ganesha The Mythological Story and Significance of Ganesh Chaturthi Ganesh Chaturthi is not merely a festival — it is a celebration of the birth of Lord Ganesha, the remover of obstacles, and his divine grace. Beginning on the Chaturthi tithi of the month of Bhadrapada, this sacred festival is regarded as a symbol of wisdom, prosperity, and the blessing of new beginnings. ॐ || The Mythological Story of Ganesh Chaturthi || Part 1 How was Lord Ganesha born? Story: According to mythology, while bathing, Goddess Parvati shaped a boy from the paste she used on her body and breathed life into him, making him her son. She instructed him to guard the doorway and not let anyone enter while she bathed. Part 2 Why did a battle take place between Lord Shiva and Ganesha? Story: When Lord Shiva came to see Goddess Parvati, the boy Ganesha stopped him from entering, since he did not recognise him. Enraged by this, Lord Shiva and the boy fought a fierce battle, during which Lord Shiva, in anger, severed the boy's head. Part 3 What did Lord Shiva do in response to Goddess Parvati's anguish? Story: When Goddess Parvati learned that Lord Shiva had killed her son, she was overcome with grief and fury. She demanded that her son be brought back to life, after which Lord Shiva ordered his attendants (ganas) to bring the head of the very first creature they found facing north. Part 7 Why is there a tradition of idol installation and immersion during Ganesh Chaturthi?
